Washington, D.C. - The House of Representatives has passed House Resolution (H.Res.) 957, a resolution led by Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01), which condemns the Biden Administration's open border policies and calls on President Biden to end these policies immediately. The resolution received bipartisan support, with fourteen Democrats joining all Republicans in voting for its passage.

The resolution serves as a rare bipartisan rebuke of the national security and public safety crisis caused by the Biden Administration's open borders policies. It also reaffirms the need for meaningful border security legislation, such as H.R. 2, to be passed.

Congressman Moran has been a strong advocate for border security since the beginning of his term. Last year, he was one of only eight original co-sponsors, and the only freshman original co-sponsor, of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. This bill includes the Congressman's Visa Overstays Penalties Act. Additionally, his first bill filed in Congress, H.R. 672, addressed border security through the Border Security Investment Act.

In his remarks on the House floor, Congressman Moran highlighted the urgency of addressing the crisis at the southern border. He emphasized that the issue affects not only border states but also rural districts like his own in Texas. He stated, "The text of my proposed House Resolution is simple, straightforward, and to the point. It denounces the Biden administration's open border policies. It condemns the national security and public safety crisis caused by these policies. And it urges President Biden to end them immediately."

The Congressman provided alarming statistics to support the need for action. He pointed out that since President Biden took office, over 7 million illegal aliens have been encountered along the southern border, with over 3.3 million released into the interior of the United States. He compared these numbers to the populations of various states, illustrating the magnitude of the crisis.

Congressman Moran also highlighted the increase in fentanyl seizures at the border, the number of unaccompanied minors crossing into the U.S., and the presence of individuals from over 150 countries, some with ties to terrorism. He criticized the Biden administration's policies, such as ending the Migrant Protection Protocols and the Remain in Mexico policy, reinstating catch and release, and halting necessary border wall construction.

The impact of these policies is widespread, affecting both rural and metropolitan communities in blue and red states. Congressman Moran cited examples of overcrowded classrooms, child labor in unsuitable industries, unpaid medical bills, overwhelmed first responders, and the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans due to the fentanyl crisis.

In conclusion, Congressman Moran called for leadership in the White House to undo the current open border policies and return to the policies that were in place before. He stated, "The people of America deserve better. They deserve to have the sovereignty and the geographic borders of this nation protected."

The passage of H.Res. 957 is a significant step in addressing the national security and public safety crisis at the southern border. It reflects the bipartisan concern and determination to find a solution. The resolution now awaits further action in the Senate, where it is hoped that it will receive similar support.
