Washington, D.C. - Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) has voted to impeach U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, citing his failure to secure the border and his violation of federal immigration laws. In a statement, Congressman Moran emphasized the seriousness of impeachment, stating, "Impeachment is a tool that should not be taken lightly."

The impeachment vote follows a comprehensive review and investigation conducted by House Republicans, which found that Secretary Mayorkas ignored his duty to secure the border and actively worked against mandates put in place to protect and secure the southern border. Congressman Moran highlighted the need for accountability, stating, "It is clear that Alejandro Mayorkas should be held accountable for his actions that put at risk the safety of our Republic and those here legally."

The chaos unfolding at the southern border has been a concern for Congressman Moran and his constituents in East Texas. He expressed the frustration of his constituents, stating, "East Texans have had enough of the chaos unfolding at our southern border." Congressman Moran stressed the need for immediate action, which led to his vote to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.

These articles of impeachment result from a year-long investigation conducted by the House Committee on Homeland Security, under the leadership of Chairman Mark Green (R-TN). The investigation found that Secretary Mayorkas is chiefly responsible for the chaos and devastation that has unfolded at America's borders over the past three years.

Congressman Moran's commitment to addressing border security is evident in his previous actions. He led the passage of House Resolution (H.Res.) 957, which condemned the Biden Administration's open borders policies and called on President Biden to end these policies immediately. The resolution received bipartisan support, with fourteen Democrats joining all Republicans in its passage. This rare bipartisan rebuke reaffirmed the urgent need for meaningful border security legislation.

In addition to his efforts in passing the House resolution, Congressman Moran emphasized the importance of pushing for the passage of H.R. 2, a bill that codifies necessary border security reforms. Congressman Moran has been focused on border security since the beginning of his tenure, co-sponsoring the toughest border security bill passed in decades, H.R. 2, and filing the Border Security Investment Act as his first bill in Congress.

The impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas marks a significant step in holding accountable those responsible for the chaos at the southern border. Congressman Moran's vote reflects the concerns of his constituents in East Texas and his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
