The Perryton ISD Board of Trustees met for their regular monthly meeting Tuesday May 26, 2020 in the PISD Board Room and on Zoom.  After opening the meeting, the board adjourned into executive session to discuss personnel for about an hour and a half.  After reconvening in open session, Superintendent James Mireles recognized several PISD staff members including Kat Broom, David Erickson, Britany Finley, Shawn Tevis and Darin Clark for their efforts to honor PHS seniors through Virtual Graduations, Sr. Salutes and other Virtual Ceremonies.

Chief Financial Officer Doug Kile presented budget amendments including attorney fees and an adjustment to the superintendent salary line to cover paying Dr. Little in addition to Mr. Mireles in April and May.   There was also an adjustment for a $51,000 rebate from Xcel Energy.

The Softball Field Renovation Plan was discussed briefly with Board President Monty Kinnard stating that a couple of revised plans were being prepared but were not ready in time for this meeting.

Mr. Mireles informed the board that the district Calendar Committee had met to vote on a revised calendar for the 2020-2021 School year.  He explained that after discussion with other superintendents throughout the region, it was recommended to add some days to the beginning of the calendar to allow for possible disruption if the COVID-19 virus returned during the coming school year.  The proposed calendar set the first day of school at August 10, instead of August 17 with teachers returning August 3, instead of August 5.  After approving an amendment to the District of Innovation Plan to accommodate the earlier start date, the board unanimously approved the proposed calendar.

The board discussed the contract with All Aboard School Transportation.  Mireles stated that the campus administrators report positive results in the first year of the agreement.  Mr. Kile is preparing a cost analysis and Mireles and Kile will be meeting with Ralph Williams from All Aboard on June 8 to discuss a few issues created by the early end to on-campus school this year.

Finally, the board unanimously approved a salary increase for Mr. Kile.
