Enrollment Analysis: Hispanic students comprised 81.6% of Walcott ISD schools' student body in 2021-22 school year

There were 124 Hispanic students enrolled in Walcott ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 7.8% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Walcott ISD schools welcomed 152 students during the 2021-22 school year. Among them, Hispanic students comprised 81.6% of the student body to be the most represented ethnicity in the district.

Walcott ISD roughly covers schools within Deaf Smith County and has a main office in Hereford.

Walcott Elementary School was the only school in the district which enrolled Hispanic students, welcoming 124 students in the 2021-22 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
