There were three American Indian students enrolled in Childress ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, the same number as the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Childress ISD schools welcomed 1,005 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.3% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Childress ISD roughly covers schools within Childress County and has a main office in Childress.

Among the three schools in Childress ISD schools, Childress Junior High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of two students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
