There were 33 African American students enrolled in Clarendon ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 6.5% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Clarendon ISD schools welcomed 434 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 7.6% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Clarendon ISD roughly covers schools within Donley County and has a main office in Clarendon.

Among the three schools in Clarendon ISD schools, Clarendon Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 16 students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
