Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has issued a statement following his vote in favor of legislation aimed at countering threats from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The legislative package, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives, focuses on protecting American national security, economic integrity, and domestic interests.
“Whether it’s reinstating Trump-era initiatives to counter CCP espionage, preventing foreign adversaries from purchasing American agricultural land, or halting taxpayer subsidies to China’s electric vehicle market, these bills are about restoring America’s sovereignty, independence, and strength,” said Congressman Moran. “We want to empower American citizens to stand firm against China’s encroachment on our lands and properties. It is critical that we push back against the CCP’s efforts to infiltrate our schools, land, and economy.”
One significant piece of legislation is Congressman Dan Newhouse’s (R-WA-04) Protecting American Agriculture from Foreign Adversaries Act of 2024. This act aims to enhance monitoring and management of foreign-owned agricultural land through stronger tracking mechanisms and comprehensive reviews of such purchases by foreign adversaries. The bill seeks to protect American agriculture and prevent potential threats to national security. It passed the House with a vote of 269 to 149.
Another key measure is Congressman August Pfluger’s (R-TX-11) DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act. This legislation restricts federal funding to educational institutions hosting Confucius Institutes connected to the CCP. It aims to safeguard national security by preventing adversarial influence within U.S. academia. The bill passed the House with a vote of 249 to 161.
Additionally, Congresswoman Carol Miller’s (R-WV-01) End Chinese Dominance of Electric Vehicles in America Act of 2024 seeks to stop American subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). The legislation would tighten the definition of Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) for the 30D EV tax credit and prohibit Chinese companies from accessing U.S. tax dollars. This bill was approved by a vote of 217 to 192.
