Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) issued a statement following his vote in favor of Congressman Chip Roy’s (R-TX-21) Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This act was included in a short-term spending package designed to extend government appropriations through March 2025.

"The future of our country depends on secure elections. The illegal immigrants flooding into our country due to the reckless border policies of the Biden-Harris Administration cannot be allowed to compromise the integrity of American elections. My vote today reflects the deep concerns I share with East Texans about the crisis at our southern border, its impact on the future of our nation, and our need to continue to work toward election integrity," stated Moran.

He continued, "As I have said many times, the preservation of our Republic is dependent on free, fair, and honest elections. The SAVE Act helps achieve these goals by requiring proof of citizenship when individuals register to vote and removing non-citizens from voter rolls. It will create added layers of needed accountability in our federal election process nationwide, and it also empowers citizens with private right of action to bring civil suits against election officials who fail to uphold the proof of citizenship requirement for those registering to vote. By attaching the SAVE Act to a short-term appropriations bill, we give it the best opportunity to pass through the Senate, which has already refused to take up the SAVE Act standing alone."

Moran emphasized his stance against a clean continuing resolution during this appropriations process: "Make no mistake. I will not vote for a clean, standalone continuing resolution during this appropriations process. We cannot continue to delay the inevitable reckoning that will occur if Congress does not take fiscal responsibility seriously and return to a regular appropriations process that is conducted through the Appropriations Committee with thoughtful evaluation and input from Members. East Texans – and our country – deserve better."

Additionally, Moran highlighted provisions aimed at U.S military readiness within today's appropriations package: "Notably, today’s appropriations package also included positive provisions aimed at ensuring U.S military readiness, including funding for the Department of Defense to go to contract on two Virginia Class submarines, which is vital to the ability of the U.S. to counter the growing threat of the Chinese Navy. And it included needed continuing appropriations for the National Flood Insurance Program and the Disaster Relief Fund."
