Congressman Nathaniel Moran, representing Texas's 1st District, voted against a continuing resolution (CR) proposed on Thursday evening. In a statement, he explained his decision, citing concerns over fiscal responsibility and government spending.

Moran stated that "with more than 77 million votes cast," the American electorate, including those in East Texas, provided a clear mandate for President Trump and Republicans to address wasteful spending and restore fiscal order in Washington. He expressed support for President Trump's economic policies but opposed what he described as a "blank check" for spending through a two-year debt limit increase. Moran argued this would increase the national debt burden on future generations without meaningful spending cuts or pro-growth policies.

He emphasized his commitment to conservative principles and fiscal responsibility, stating, "I was hired by the people of East Texas to apply conservative principles consistently and equally." As a self-described fiscal hawk focused on reducing spending and lowering taxes, Moran referenced his previous vote against raising the debt ceiling two years ago due to its open-ended nature without sufficient policy achievements or spending reductions.

Moran concluded by expressing his intention to work with President Trump to promote conservative budget priorities and reduce government expenditure under Republican leadership starting in January.
