Congressman Nathaniel Moran of Texas has expressed his support for a government funding plan that aligns with the upcoming Republican agenda. The congressman shared his stance following a vote in favor of the negotiated plan, which aims to maintain government operations and facilitate the implementation of former President Trump's "America First" policies in 2025.
Moran opposed earlier proposals, criticizing them for excessive spending without adequate fiscal responsibility. "I was absolutely opposed to Wednesday’s more than 1,500-page continuing resolution because I could not support a massive spending bill that was simply a Christmas tree full of ornaments in runaway spending and pet projects to empower government bureaucracy," he stated. He also voted against another measure that proposed lifting the debt ceiling for two years without limitations, arguing it would burden future generations with debt.
The congressman emphasized his commitment to conservative fiscal principles, saying, "As a fiscal hawk who knows that debt and spending are some of the greatest enemies of the American people, I have consistently voted against measures to raise the debt ceiling."
The legislation Moran supported ensures no increase in the debt ceiling without corresponding spending cuts or policy achievements. He noted its significance in preventing a government shutdown that could result in financial waste and additional authority shifts to President Joe Biden and Senator Chuck Schumer.
Moran is optimistic about working with Trump in 2025: "It is time to turn the page, and I look forward to standing with President Trump in 2025 to ensure we can hit the ground running to achieve real, fiscally conservative policy wins on behalf of the American people."
