Congressman Nathaniel Moran has expressed approval following the House's decision to pass the Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, introduced by Congressman Juan Ciscomani. The legislation aims to enhance federal penalties for those involved in high-speed chases at the border, targeting illegal aliens, human smugglers, cartel members, and others attempting to evade U.S. Border Patrol and assisting law enforcement officers.

Congressman Moran stated, "The previous Administration was complacent in securing our borders and enforcing the rule of law. Unfortunately, this has emboldened illegal immigrants to enter our country and has led to a sharp rise in high-speed chases along the border—putting our Border Patrol and law enforcement officers at risk."

He further emphasized that "this common-sense legislation highlights the steps House Republicans are taking to secure our borders, support our law enforcement, and deter threats from foreign invaders." He added his commitment as a Texas representative to protect those who work against human trafficking, fentanyl distribution, and illegal immigration.

The act is named after Agent Raul Gonzalez who died in a car crash while pursuing illegal aliens evading capture. The bill proposes a new federal offense with penalties ranging from up to two years imprisonment for general offenses to 10 years to life if it results in death. It also introduces strict immigration repercussions for convicted individuals.

Moreover, the legislation mandates an annual report from the Attorney General to Congress detailing charges under this law and associated penalties.
