Recent data on the Texas labor market is showing the Panhandle moving in the right direction when it comes to economic improvement.
According to a July 20 Workforce Solutions Panhandle article, Texas Labor Market Information data shows the Panhandle area's unemployment rate dropped from 7.8% to 6.0% in one month.
The data for the Panhandle showed a labor force of 195,810, with employment at 184,351 and unemployment at 11,459, or 5.9% for June, according to the article. In May, the labor force numbers for the Panhandle were 188,679 for the labor force, 173,889 in employment and 14,790 for unemployment or 7.8%. The numbers for last June for the panhandle were a labor force of 208,436, employment of 202,405 and 6,031 unemployed or 2.9%, according to Workforce Solutions Panhandle's article.
Other areas in the state seeing an improvement in unemployment numbers include the Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area with 6.0%. That area had seen an 8.5% unemployment rate in the prior month, according to the article.
