Congressman Nathaniel Moran of Texas has been appointed to the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Speaker Mike Johnson made the appointment, placing Moran among those tasked with evaluating threats from China to U.S. national security and economy.
Moran expressed his commitment to addressing these challenges, stating, "It is a great honor to be selected to serve on the China Select Committee. Every day, the Chinese Communist Party presents new threats that impact East Texas and all Americans."
The committee operates under Chairman John Moolenaar's leadership. Moolenaar emphasized the importance of this work: "The Chinese Communist Party represents the most significant national and economic security threat of our time." He also acknowledged support from Speaker Johnson in advancing policies aimed at maintaining U.S. strength against China's growing influence.
This committee was established in 2022 by a Republican majority to address concerns regarding communist China. It continues its mission into the 119th Congress with backing from both Republican-controlled legislative bodies and the Trump Administration.
