Washington, D.C. - Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) has expressed his support for a recent announcement by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regarding a $500,000 grant awarded to the Southern Rail Commission (SRC). The grant, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Corridor Identification and Development (Corridor ID) Program, aims to bring intercity passenger rail to Mineola, Longview, and Marshall in East Texas.

Congressman Moran has been a long-time advocate for expanding passenger rail transportation in East Texas and believes that this grant award is a step in the right direction. In a statement, he said, "Improving East Texas' infrastructure and connecting the First District to metropolitan areas along I-20 is an essential effort for ensuring long-term growth and prosperity. This investment will help better position Mineola, Longview, and Marshall for future economic opportunities and growth."

The grant is part of the DOT's FRA plan to expand passenger rail across the country, with a focus on connecting passenger rail between Dallas, TX and Altana, GA. This initiative aims to create a pipeline of intercity passenger rail projects that are ready for implementation.

Judge Bill Stoudt, Gregg County Judge, also expressed his excitement about the grant, stating, "This is outstanding news, not only for our Longview, Tyler, Mineola, Marshall, East Texas region but also for all large cities and smaller rural communities along the I-20 Corridor route. All will greatly benefit from this much-needed East-West connection across our Southern region."

The Corridor ID Program, under which this grant was awarded, is a comprehensive intercity passenger rail planning and development program. It will guide the development of intercity passenger rail projects throughout the country, including the long-term corridor project that aims to connect Dallas, TX to Atlanta, GA. The project plans to serve cities such as Fort Worth, Mineola, Longview, and Marshall in Texas.

This grant is a significant step towards improving infrastructure and promoting economic growth in East Texas. Congressman Moran and local leaders will continue to work together to advocate for programs that strengthen the region's economy and enhance its transportation network.
