LAREDO COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Laredo College PTA Program graduates achieve 100% passing rate for the eighth time

Laredo Community College issued the following announcement.

The graduates of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program at Laredo College have once again achieved a 100% passing rate on the national licensure exam in their first attempt. Nine students sat for the National Physical Therapy Examination for Physical Therapist Assistants on July 2020 and successfully passed the licensure exam. 

This exam is generated by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy and is only provided four times a year. In order to obtain their licensure, students must pass the exam with at least a score of 22 in reading, 21 in listening, 22 in writing and 24 in speaking.

The LC PTA Program students have achieved a 100% first-time pass rate for the eighth time. LC students in the PTA Program have celebrated this accomplishment every year since 2012 with the exception of 2015.

“We are very proud of our graduates for this great achievement.  This outcome reflects the hard work of both students and dedicated PTA Program faculty invested in helping students achieve their educational goals,” PTA Program Director and Instructor Esmeralda Vargas said.

Faculty members include Dr. Vargas, Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education, PTA Instructor Yolanda Guzman and PTA Instructor Jacqueline Torres.

LC President Ricardo J. Solis received this news with excitement as he felt proud of the students who prepared for a career with a promising future and the amazing faculty that instills passion and shares their extended knowledge the field.

“Once again we have demonstrated that our faculty go above and beyond to prepare students in their respective fields with quality education in any scenario. We look forward to continuing to educate students in the field to serve and make a difference in our community,” President Solis said.

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program at LC was established in 1985 to meet the healthcare needs of the community and the region. The PTA Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. For more information about the PTA Program, contact the Allied Health Department at (956) 721-5262.
