LAREDO COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Laredo College to host virtual Board of Trustees candidate forum

Zoooom

Laredo Community College issued the following announcement.

Laredo College Faculty Senate, the Laredo College Honors Program and the Laredo College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society have organized a virtual open forum with the candidates vying for Laredo College Board of Trustees positions 7, 8 and 9 on October 21, 2020 at 6 p.m.

This forum will provide an opportunity for the candidates to share their take on issues pertaining to student and employee matters. The Laredo College Faculty Senate, the Honors Program and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will moderate the forum and serve as representatives of college employees and students in order to provide a channel of communication between candidates and the college community.

“With Laredo College’s outstanding rankings, impactful renovations and innovative programs, choosing our future representatives is of great importance to the college’s mission and values,” Laredo College President Ricardo J. Solis said. “The responsibility of the elected candidate is to work cohesively as a board in order to participate with administration, faculty, staff and students through the equal sharing of governance and decision-making in all endeavors in order to support the vision and strategic plan of the college.”

The Laredo College Board is a nine-member, citizen-led panel that serves as the official governing body for the two-campus district. Trustees hold monthly public meetings, as well as special-called meetings and committee meetings throughout the year.

“We look forward to an engaging and spirited conversation regarding the future of our college,” Laredo College Faculty Senate President Prakash Mansinghani said. “Our students and faculty have worked tirelessly to put this event together and it is our hope that each candidate will take the opportunity to distinguish themselves from another before the community.”

The community is invited to witness the virtual forum to select the college’s future representatives.

“We are proud to support the critical process of selecting our trustees,” Laredo College Senior Director of Strategic & External Initiatives Michael Gonzalez said. “We encourage everyone in the community to attend this virtual forum to become better informed as they select the future leadership of Laredo College.”
