Panhandle Community Services to award over $127,000 for low-income housing repairs

Panhandle Community Services is one of seven entities to be awarded funding through the Housing Preservation Grants program.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will invest $1.24 million designated for assisting in house repairs for low-income families. Panhandle Community Services will receive $127,000, of which $15,000 will be awarded to households for repairs that address safety and health concerns, according to a USDA press release

Funding can be spent on repair such as HVAC equipment, windows, attic insulation, roof repair or replacement, electrical and gas lines. Repairs can reduce energy costs significantly for those in need of assistance.

Counties served by the Panhandle Community Services include Armstrong, Brisco, Carson, Castro, Childress, Collingsworth, Dallam, Deaf Smith, Donley, Gray, Hall, Hansforth, Hartley, Hemphill, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Moore, Ochiltree, Oldham, Parmer, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman, Swisher and Wheeler.
